From the Kill Pen Film Screening and Reception

  • St. Hubert'S

St. Hubert’s joins forces again with the ASPCA government relations team members to host an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary From the Kill Pen, an exploration of the underground horse slaughter industry in America.   Fact-driven and without gratuitous violence, the film employs candid interviews, whistleblower footage and underground video to expose the disturbing underground pipeline about  which much of mainstream society is unaware.   Discussion on what actionadvocates should take to protect horses at the federal level will follow the screening.  There is no charge to attend but please RSVP here

"UNLOCKING THE CAGE" Movie Screening

  • St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center

Join us for this insightful, thought provoking film that follows animal rights lawyer Steven Wise in his unprecedented  challenge to break down the legal wall that separates animals from humans, exploring the concept of "who is a legal person?" After thirty years of struggling with the ineffective animal welfare laws, Steven and his legal team, the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), are making history by filing the first lawsuits that seek to transform an animal from a thing with no rights to a person with legal protections. Its first cases were filed in 2013 on behalf of captive chimpanzees and activist Jane Goodall serves on the Board of Directors.

Click here for a printable flyer to share with family, friends, coworkers.

Matthew Dominguez, NhRP's Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations, will be joining us to introduce the film, answer questions, and lead discussion following the screening. Attendance is open to the public and free of charge, donations graciously accepted.
