St. Hubert's Kid's Critter Camp in Madison, NJ is for children who love animals and have a keen interest in learning as much as they can about them.  Through exciting and educational activities, creative arts and crafts and fun outdoor games, campers in grades 2 through 6 learn to understand, enjoy and value the relationship between people and companion animals.

We are all aware of the many forms of violence in the world today and its effect on our children.  Studies dramatically show that children who embrace a healthy respect for animals are more likely to transfer caring attitudes towards all living things, including the people in their lives.  Critter Camp reinforces this.

Each day has a specific theme that includes appropriate games, crafts, visitors, animals, daily walks through the shelter and an end-of-the-day story.  The Animal Safety theme is covered each year because of statistics that indicate children are more likely to be bitten by pets they know.  While at camp, the children learn how to understand animal communication and what they need to do to ensure that their experiences with any pets are positive.

While at camp children will be entertained and enlightened by many special guests, including a Seeing Eye dog and her blind owner, various service dogs and even some interesting wild animals and insects.  During their daily shelter visits, campers enjoy learning the animals' individual stories.  Visits with one of St. Hubert's therapy pet teams consisting of a dog, cat or bunny and its owner, enable them to practice what they've learned about interaction with pets.
