PROPER DOG COLLARS
Dear Dr. Woof:
I know I'm as well loved as
all the other dogs in my neighborhood, but I've noticed that all
of them have two collars, a silver chain one like mine
and another nice looking one. Should I feel deprived?
Underdressed
Dear Under:
I'm sure your owners would
never deprive you, but they may not be aware of the danger of
allowing you to wear your training collar all the time. By nature
of its design the collar is most effective for schooling and control
on lead, but could result in tragedy when worn as your primary
collar should its loose ring become caught on something. Not
too long ago one of our animal control officers rescued a panicked
dog who was choking as he tried to free himself after the end
of his training collar slid through the planks while he was quietly
lying on the deck right at home! Your owners should make certain
that you always wear a leather or nylon buckle collar with
your tags securely attached and that you only wear your
training collar for the purposes for which it is intended.
