Be a part of the NEW St. Hubert’s!
Imagine you’re a hungry, frightened dog rescued from dismal conditions in a hoarding situation. You arrive at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, received by open arms that carry you to an examination room. You are diagnosed with mange and intestinal parasites. Skillful, loving hands check you over thoroughly so your needs may be immediately addressed. Next you are taken to the treatment and bathing room for your special bath to remove the dirt and grime and soothe your itchy red skin, medication so the parasites stop depleting you and you receive necessary vaccinations. Finally you find yourself in a warm, clean, cozy dog run with 100% fresh air in the shelter’s Mutts on the Mend ward. You eat dinner carefully and efficiently prepared by the staff in the Pet Pantry. After a bathroom break in your own outdoor space attached to your run, you snuggle down for the night--fed, less itchy, no doubt exhausted from the whole ordeal--into fresh, soft bedding made ready by the staff and volunteers in the Save a Pet Launderette.
Phase I of St. Hubert’s Capital Campaign will significantly affect and improve our operations and will be the beginning of new functioning space to support and enhance our mission: improve housing space, provide a better environment to implement behavior modification, speed recovery and reduce cross-contamination. The design of Phase I, with features like get well wards for dogs and cats, heated floors for whelping moms and elderly dogs and a centrally located high-capacity laundry area will create a more efficient flow to our operations.
Construction for Phase I of St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center is currently underway. The concrete has been poured and fire-proofing is complete. The project is continuing with the rough work for the electrical and plumbing that will be serving the “Back of House” areas, as well as the main duct work for the air/ventilation systems. Casework that has been generously donated for this area is being integrated into the design by our architects. We hope to have this phase completed and in use by the summer!
